Happy April Families    April 7, 2022

It is hard to believe it is already April. While school is winding down, we still have two full months of learning and activities planned. Please read and learn about these upcoming opportunities.

Report Cards and Grades

Third quarter finished in March. Our teachers worked hard to fill out progress reports and enter in grades. K-2 students should have brought home their progress reports yesterday, April 5th. 3-5 graders have their grades up to date via Infinite Campus. If you need help logging in to Infinite Campus, please contact Jackie in the office. (515-795-3240 ext 1)

Tornado and Fire Drills

Last Tuesday, we practiced tornado and fire drills at the elementary building. Throughout the school year, we have been updating our alarm systems. Ask your child about the new alarms. The Tornado Alarm sounds like a ‘typical siren’ over the intercom. The fire alarm has a voice that announces ‘there is a fire in the building’. It was great to have the students practice and hear the new emergency systems.

ISASP Testing

During the last twelve weeks of school, all 3rd -11th graders across the state of Iowa will be taking ISASP (Iowa State Assessment of Student Progress). Students will be assessed on a computer in reading, math, language usage, and essay writing. 5th, 8th, and 10th grade students will also be assessed in science. We will be testing at Madrid Elem the week of

April 18th. If you know your child is going to be gone, please contact your child’s teacher ahead of time. For more information about ISASP testing, please refer to an email that was sent via Infinite Campus.

Renovations to the building

We are very excited about the renovations and additions that are happening to the Madrid Elementary building! We anticipate some of the renovations being completed before the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Henkle Contractors plan to move on to the office area and the current library renovations in May. Due to the renovations, some classrooms may be transplanted for the last month of school. We are working with the contractors to maintain our learning environment, as much as possible. Renovations to our building are anticipated to be completed by the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year!
